Guest guest
Lolita is an orca (killer whale) who has been imprisoned in an illegally small tank at the Miami Seaquarium for almost 34 years. The campaign to rehabilitate, free, and reunite her with her family (who still lives off the coast of Washington state) has been ongoing for years. However, that campaign has been given a massive boost by the recent creation of " Lolita: Slave to Entertainment, " a documentary about Lolita's kidnapping and life in captivity. This amazing film, by Tim Gorski and Val Silidker, has created a sensation among the animal rights community and has struck fear into the animal exploiters. It has won several best documentary awards at film festivals around the country and will be screened at the Animal Rights 2003 conferences in D.C. and L.A. this summer. To get a copy of the video or CD, go to the first website listed below and make a donation of $20 or more to support continued efforts for Lolita. Please watch it, share it with your friends, and let Tim and Val know if there are any opportunities for screening the film in your area. The campaign has reached a critical point. We are more determined than ever to rescue and retire Lolita, and we are getting a groundswell of support in the effort from celebrities like Elton John and the band Yes; animal protection groups like Orca Network and the Dolphin Conservancy; attorneys and investigators who are seeking legal avenues for liberation; and a large team of committed activists. Starting a few weeks ago, every Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. until Lolita is free there will be a protest outside of the Miami Seaquarium abusement park that exploits her. Please join us if you can.
