Guest guest
I went to the dentist this morning and he prescribed me antibiotics and a NOT-over-the-counter-oral rinse. I am not sure about the antibiotics but the oral rinse ingredients are NOT vegan! And I am pretty sure both are/were animal tested sometime in the past! The thing is if I don't take this medication my tooth infection could spread and get horrible and I am in pain right know but I refuse to buy painkillers because they would also contain animal ingredients and I can probably pass without painkillers right now. But I feel horribly bad already by having to take the other stuff (antibiotics and oral rinse liquid). What should I do in situations like this? Where can I find vegan prescriptions that substitute these? If I tell the doctor, that I don't want to take this medications because they contain animal ingredients....Do I have any other choices? I am willing to return all this prescriptions to the pharmacy and buy vegan substitutes, are there any? Please send me some suggestions. What do you do in circumstances like these? I'll highly appreciate it. Ana
Guest guest
I dunno if this would work in this instance, but when you first go, and fill out a form, it asks if you're allergic to a bunch of things...doesn't hurt to check all the boxes with animal ingredients..perhaps there's something more appropriate? - Dave - " annamky " <anamaria Friday, October 03, 2003 2:39 PM About doctors and drug prescriptions > I went to the dentist this morning and he prescribed me antibiotics > and a NOT-over-the-counter-oral rinse. > I am not sure about the antibiotics but the oral rinse ingredients > are NOT vegan! Guest guest
A Compounding Pharmacist may be able to prepare the medications without animal ingredients. Look for one in your area. However, if that doesn't work, you just have to do what you have to do. It is virtually impossible to live in the U.S. and be completely " animal free. " The motto is, " Do the least harm. Guest guest
Sadly, all drugs must by law be tested on animals in the US. Guest guest
Hi! Hope you are feeling better. I just wanted to add that I think all of the advice you have been given is accurate. The reality is that there are times when we can not be as selective as we would like to - such is often the case with prescription medications. I opt for natural, herbal supplements, etc. whenever possible, but there are times (such as with infections or other health conditions) were those options may not be available or sufficient. You can not feel badly about yourself that you are taking something that you need in order to get better. Look at it this way...If you are not well, it is one less person out there advocating for animal rights, healthy living and veganism. There may come a time when medications that have not been tested on animals are readily available, but we are not there yet. For now you can only go with the alternatives that we have, buy as much as possible from cruelty free companies and take care of yourself at the same time. Good luck to you and hope you feel better soon. ~ Renae annamky <anamaria wrote: I went to the dentist this morning and he prescribed me antibiotics and a NOT-over-the-counter-oral rinse.
