Guest guest
to the student in Ontario.. it is likely you are not the only vegetarian or vegan leaning student..find the best way to post your concerns through your student government or newspaper. If there are enough students interested, approach your University student contact person with a proposal..there are companies out there that provide on campus food solututions for vegetarians...at minumum, your school should be willing to reduce or eliminate the " madatory " food meal plan..what do they do for Muslim students?-no pork, Jewish students-Kosher? etc...it seems vegetarian is a no brainer...f it is a public university especially, they should be receptive to providing food options for you..good luck Tracy G

Before you eat, you see one of the ingredients she used is a product that has "whey" in it. What do you do? The only stuff I always always say no to are flesh, anything from the slaughterhouse and egg. If someone takes the time to prepare something for me sincerely and there is only a little bit of milk or butter in it...I will not be vegan for that meal, I guess. I don't want my relatives or others to feel that I am not flexible to the situation (although with meat I would never eat it...no flexibility there). I worry sometimes that vegans focus too much on the minuscule ingredients rather than the big piece of chicken and large servings of milk. I think many outside of our movement can't understand why we are so finicky and thus are turned off. You go to a dinner with friends, and the main course and salad are "vegan" except for a teaspoon of honey in each. What do you do? It depends how "sweet" it was...I never liked savory and sweet together...plus I am not supposed to each much sugar. But honey, I would take in this situation. You are making a vegan dinner for 8 non vegan friends at your house. What do you make? For non vegetarians I like to make "hearty" high protein foods so they know you can feel very satisfied eating veg. I'd also try not to make anything too raw or cold...like if I made tofu I'd bake them with tamari so they become almost like jerky. In the past what I've made is Pad Thai and that's always been a winner. Your mother in law or other relative asks you if you can do a big favor and store a turkey in your fridge as hers is full of other thanksgiving trimmings. What do you do? I might just store it so she could see what a "big" person I was. Shame on her for asking, though! Someone gives you a chocolate bar that has no dairy or egg, and is from a good company. It is processed on a plant that processes milk and may contain trace elements. Do you eat it? Trace elements are not something we should spend a lot of time on. No, I would still eat it. But a big glass a milk....no. You notice a mosquito in your room just before you go to bed. It's making an annoying noise and might bite you in the night. You have a good shot at it. What do you do? I am totally not experienced with mosquitos. Maybe open the window and try to shoo it out...maybe mix some tea tree oil with lotion and put in on my exposed skin... or hope nothing happens! I have an ant and spider problem here...can't help killing ants when I clean...it's a bummer. And because I don't like to kill spiders I have way too many of them. Guest guest
Thanks all for the warm welcome, and a great laugh. One question: Are there any veggies that cannot be eaten raw? I've never had zuchinni or squash raw, and the curiousity woke me up in the middle of the night, and I never did go back to sleep ....yawn! Also, can beans be eaten uncooked, or do they all need to be soaked and cooked? So much to learn, 24 hrs a day, just aint enough time it seems! ..··-.¸.-··. I have enjoyed zucchini and summer (yellow) squash raw. I haven't tried other kinds of squash raw. Rachael
