Guest guest
Hi. It sounds like there's been plenty of support for the problems that Ruth experienced, so I won't add too much here. I've been a vegan for 14 years, and I've had as many ups and downs in terms of how I felt physically as I did before I became vegan, so I wonder if there are many factors that affect us? I've had some friends who thrived on the diet, others who could hardly drag themselves across the room to chew on some tofu. Good luck Ruth with finding the right diet for you. I was interested in the note from michi about the margarine. I was given some of this brand of margarine over the holidays (my well-intentioned Mum had bought it for me to use at the big family dinner) so I was bothered to read about the Vitamin D " non-source disclosure " . I did a bit of searching (couldn't find too much from sources I consider credible, but I did find this on the UK Vegan Society's website which I found.....disheartening considering the mandatory vitamin D fortification of many foods....).... http://www.vegansociety.com/html/food/nutrition/vitaminD.php Vegans and Vitamin D Vegans usually obtain vitamin D from the action of sunlight on the skin or by taking fortified foods such as soya milk, margarine (all of which are fortified by law in the UK), breakfast cereals and vitamin supplements which are made from yeast or other fungi. Fortified vegan products contain D2 (ergocalciferol). Foods with naturally occurring vitamin D are, however, usually animal derived containing the vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). Do some of your own research in this area is you need convincing. There is a condition called " Hypothyroidism " that can be aggravated when consuming soy (like Tofu, tempeh, soy sauce, Mayonnaise, veggie burgers, veggie hot dogs, soy milk etc..) Some of your health problems could be a direct link to your soy intake, or with a thyroid condition. > > *Most ALL of your meat alternatives contain high amounts of MSG. MSG is an exitotoxin that causes a myriad of problems, both physically and mentally. MSG has many different names and the MSG association is continually looking for new names to hide the fact that they have added MSG. MSG has maintained a misleading GRAS (generally regarded as Safe) status in Canada and the US, which means the corporations can pour as much of this poison into their products as they wish. > > > Just a side note: beware of all non-natural products. Even when you read the ingredients, many can come from an animal source. My family and I were recently sickened because we found out that what we thought was " Vegan " margarine (Fleischman's lactose free non-hydrogenated Margarine) contained beef byproducts that was only listed as " Vitamin D " . Which tells me .....don't trust what you read in a product that is processed. Again, natural is the way. Nothing that man has had his hand meddling with. > > Good luck and good health > Michi > > Hotjobs: Enter the " Signing Bonus " Sweepstakes > >
Guest guest
I am almost 90% vegan, sometimes I'm a bit of Judas to the cause, but only because my wife influences me (shes's is an animal eater). Just cheese, sorry:( But my health got better and better after turning from vegetarian to vegan. the only thing is my stomach, which I think is due to lazyness and some beer (which is a good source of nutrients for us in comparison to milk, see milksucks.com) Colds, sore throats, fever and any other daily illness are far from me, which I think that is because of: my balanced vegan diet, some vitamins, and the non indirect comsumption of any hormone, steroid, antibiotic contained in dairy and animal flesh. On the top of that, a good sense of humor to top up my health, which is one of the main indispensable ingredients for a good health All the best Erik --- wrote: > There are 3 messages in this issue. > > Topics in this digest: > > 1.
