Guest guest
I'm a very recent convert and I'm having a hard time knowing what all contains animal products. For example, I had no idea marshmallows had gelitan! Can anyone give me a rundown of some of the not-so-obvious things to avoid? I'm also interested in purchasing a couple of books; both cookbooks as well as how-to-be type. I was a bit overwhelmed at Barnes & Noble at the number of books available on the subject and could use some recomendations. Thank you! Guest guest
Hi and Welcome! Congratulations and good luck on the conversion! You are right - it is amazing how many products contain animal ingredients! I would highly recommend the book 'Animal Ingredients (A - Z) compiled by the E.G. Smith Collective. It lists all of the ingredients to look out for and also gives definitions of what these innocous things are. I found it, and still do, to be very helpful. Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. Renae CHOWS386 wrote: I'm a very recent convert and I'm having a hard time knowing what all contains animal products. Guest guest
I suggest the book : " Becoming Vegan " by Vesanto Melina and Brenda Davis. Everything you have to know about food is there. Guest guest
Hi Judy, It would not be of much help to you for someone in this group to give you some " not-so-obvious things to avoid " . There are WAY to many of them. It takes a pretty good amount of time to learn what is and what isnt animal ingredients, and even then, you will find something you didnt know was an animal ingredient. If you had no idea that marshmallows werent vegan, then boy oh boy are you gonna be supridsed when you see some other things as you learn. The easiest way to educate yourself, would be to search online ( I.E.: Google) and start reading labels. Type " Vegan + Ingredients List " and you will find many answers to your questions. Take care and good luck. Jay --- CHOWS386 wrote: > I'm a very recent convert and I'm having a hard time > knowing what all > contains animal products. Guest guest
Don't be hard on yourself. No one in our world is perfect. We learn more all the time. Being vegan as best you can is part of the big picture in improving one's health and contributing to the world. Feel positive about your direction. > > > , CHOWS386@C... wrote: > > I'm a very recent convert and I'm having a hard time knowing what > all > > contains animal products.
