Relayed here by: arthur_cravan See website: www.curedisease.com Email: EFMA Please help us to end animal experiments (Europeans for Medical Advancement) www.curedisease.com Animal experiments kill animals and people ! Help us to end this lethal practice ! Every day, inside British laboratories, thousands of animals are poisoned and killed in painful experiments. For more than a hundred years, people have campaigned against these experiments, but they still continue. Why? Because of huge resistance to changing long-established traditions and because massive financial interests are at stake for the world`s most profitable industry: the pharmaceutical industry ~ which enjoys powerful support from the highest levels of government. Shamelessly evoking our greatest fears, they assert that animal experiments save human lives and must continue. But the time for change has arrived! The weight of evidence we have gathered is indisputable: not only do animals suffer pain and distress in experiments, but they differ in crucial ways in their reactions to drugs and disease. Applying knowledge from animals to humans is harming and killing huge numbers of people. Thanks to recent scientific developments, we can now explain why this is so ~ and offer a positive vision for 21st century medical research ~ freed from the shackles of 19th century animal experimentation. Europeans for Medical Advancement has the evidence and the expertise to demonstrate that animal experiments are one of the biggest obstacles to medical progress today. Ending animal experimentation will truly benefit people, as well as animals. As an independent group of medical professionals and scientists, we are uniquely placed to convey this positive message ~ and politicians are listening! Taking our message to politicians, scientists and the media. We are a new organisation, but already we have: Provided scientific evidence at the recent enquiry into Cambridge University`s proposed primate laboratory, which persuaded the government inspector to recommend that the centre should not be built. Addressed a cross-party meeting of MPs at the House of Commons to explain why animal experimentation is not good science. Given evidence to the Science and Technology Committee regarding the new EU chemicals policy. Addressed recent Labour, Liberal Democrat and Green Party conferences. Had a major article published in the Guardian on the futility of brain research on monkeys, as well as many letters in the Times, Telegraph, other national newspapers and scientific journals. Met with influential pharmaceutical industry leaders and given many talks and debates (with Professor Colin Blakemore and others) to radio, TV, universities, medical schools and the public. Published three books revealing the human cost of experimenting on animals. Please help us build on these early successes These are real successes ~ and we will achieve much more if you give us the support that we need. With your money, we will continue to produce reports and educate young people. We will explain to MPs and policy-makers that animal experimentation is unscientific and dangerous. We will engage pro-vivisection scientists in more public debates and challenge the pro-vivisection assumptions in the media. We will recruit more doctors and scientists to our board, have a presence at scientific conferences, and persuade industry that it is in their own financial best interest to abandon outdated and ineffective animal-based research. Please give your support today We have started this work already, but there is so much more to do and we need your help. Whatever donation you are able to make, no matter how big or small, will help us make real changes that will benefit patients waiting for treatments as well as animals in laboratories. With your support, EFMA can bring forward the day when vivisection is ended. ~ Ray Greek MD, Founder and Medical Director, EFMA.
