Guest guest
Friends, have you heard of the doc film " Lolita-Slave to Entertainment " ? It's about an orca named Lolita with an amazing spirit that has lived in captivity for the last 30+ years at the Miami Seaquarium. She was stolen from the waters off Puget Sound in 1970 and has been prisoner for over 30 years in an illegal and substandard tank that is basically the size of a bathtub to an orca. The Miami Seaquarium won't release her back into the ocean to be with her family even though marine biologists have been tracking her family ever since the capture and they have offered a very detailed and well-crafted plan for her release. Although there have been many successful releases of orcas and dolphins, the owners of the Miami Seaquarium won't let her go or even release her to a sea pen because she has made them over 160 million dollars with monotonous shows that she has had to perform in daily to get food. The owners have even been offered a million dollars for this beautiful, intelligent animal to go home but they still say no. They are literally working her to death and when she is not working to make them generous profits, she sits in her tank and slowly floats looking very lonely and sad. The other 6 family members from her pod that were captured over 3 decades ago have died in captivity years ago. This is typical of whales and dolphins in captivity. In the wild, whales/dolphins can have life spans similar to humans but in captivity, they are lucky if they make it to their teens. It is a miracle she has survived this long but one day they will find Lolita dead in her tank. I pray that she will be reunited with her family before this terrible fate becomes a reality. The documentary " Lolita: Slave to Entertainment " tells her story and spreads awareness about her heart-breaking struggle to survive in captivity in a miserable, small chlorinated tub. This film helps educate people about the truth about sea park corporations, the marine animals that are captured and ripped from their families, and the sadness, isolation, lack of exercise and interaction with others of their species. I just watched the film last night and was very saddened to learn about the imprisonment of Lolita for over 3 decades. It was heart wrenching to see her calling for her family from her tank and missing her true home in the ocean. Friends, would you be willing to help Lolita by making a donation or buying the movie and showing it in your community at a school, local theatre, or to family and friends? If you can’t contribute anything monetary, please visit the website and learn about her to help spread awareness. Above all, the single most important thing you can do is to boycott Miami Seaquarium and other marine parks that keep dolphins and whales captive and work them to death for money. The websites are www.slavetoentertainment.com and www.miamiseaprison.com As animal-lovers and compassionate human beings, I hope that you will consider promoting this important message to the public. Dolphins and whales belong in the wild with their family and not trapped and caged for people's entertainment to make a profit. Lolita thanks you in advance for your compassion and efforts to help her go home to return to her family who is waiting for her! ===== In loving memory of my little Kali-girl http://www.redvegan.net/kali/ " You can't save every animal in the world but, for the one you do save, it IS the world!
