Guest guest
Hi, I'm in the process of buying a house with land in another state. I'd like a housemate or two, and would also love to have someone build their own space on the land, as there's room for it (there are also a few other nearby properties for sale). There's also potential for someone to grow their own organic garden. I've been vegetarian for 25 years, and have been vegan off and on (with some raw) for 15. I don't have to be around vegans, but it would sure make life easier. I'm also pretty active and like to jog, mtn.bike, and rock climb, and hike...but it doesn't matter to me if others don't do that. I'll find those people who do that stuff. The land is just outside Memphis: temperate weather all year with about two months of icy cold weather in winter, Wild Oats Market will be 40 minutes away, as well as access to institutes of higher learning (such as Univ. of Memphis, UT, and Rhodes College), and businesses. I will have a number of rescued, formerly feral cats, a few dogs, and am likely to take in abused farm animals as well. A couple I know will be also buying a house very nearby. They're mostly raw. We are looking to find cohabitation with other vegans and activists. We are interested to move out country and we would like to have our dog with us. If you need more info, please e-mail me@fallen_angl05 or tazman_rich05 Nicki
Guest guest
Hi Raven, I'm sorry I didn't see your question sooner. I don't think I'm the person to ask. I looked only at houses on land, not at raw land. If this current contract goes through, I'm going to be in a very inexpensive house with a mixed range of home prices, and where everyone has at least an acre or so of property. I did see some bare lots online in Fayette County that were divided up into about six acres each, and priced at about $30k total per lot. I don't remember where I saw that, and don't really want to do online searches to find it again. I had originally thought it would be great to buy a six- acre lot,and try to get other vegan communitarians to buy the others. But, I quickly realized that wouldn't be realistic. This is the 2000's, not the 70's; it's harder to form communities. I see new ones failing all the time. Also,I have animals (and occasional foster kids) too, so don't have the time (or money) to hold two properties for a year while I make trips back and forth between states trying to build my own home, or even hire others to do it. The house prices are reasonable enough, that it just doesn't make sense for me to spend that much time and money on building and holding onto the house I'm in. Of course, land price varies so much depending on zoning, and on whether a lot is heavily wooded, where the growth is, your proximity to main roads, country clubs, nearest city, lakes, development, etc. I'd suggest that you start by looking at either the real estate sites, like crye-leike.com or remax.com. Or, just do a search for Memphis real estate, and input what it is you're after. I started out with searches in Eads, Oakland, and Somerville, which are in Fayette County, and cheaper taxes than Shelby (Memphis). I also flew out there, and looked in Olive Branch, Miss.with an agent. I saw several homes I liked that were on about 3 acre lots for an average of $169k, which is close to the price I asked for. But, they weren't quite what I was after. Certainly, without needing a house on the land, you have much more variability in the possible range of prices. There isn't much for sale right now in the <<immediate>> area where I expect to be, and none of it is bare land. But, I'll send you some comp's privately, in case you're interested. Since the town of Oakland was a rural area not so long ago, and still is, in some places, I know there are parcels of land of all types and sizes. If you wanted to look at houses, I could tell you more about what I've seen, but I just don't know about the raw land prices. kim .. , Raven Alexandra deWinter <corvus_sky> wrote: > > could you find out how much the parsels of land near > you will cost ,because i am contemplating to moove out > of NC with my 16 foster animals ,and if i get my SSi > back pay I might even be able to buy my own land and > start to build ,peice ,buy peice > thank you > R-
