Guest guest
DONALD WATSON : A Tribute Atanu Dey, 18th Nov.’05 Passing away of Donald Watson is a sad happening on this planet and an uncompensable loss to the vegan movement. On a day when Donald Watson is no more among us, we should be humble and be thankful for such a glory in him manifested in the contemporary time which had lead many of us towards a better realization of what compassion, caring and feeling of oneness in all life forms mean. Donald Watson will remain immortal through Veganism and the Vegans, who have learnt a new way of living with least violence and cruelty and with utmost respect to other forms of life. I personally, express my earnest thanks to him, for I used to suffer terribly at deep in my heart to be a witness and participant in the process of torture and cruelty to other animals, but following veganism led me to find peace with myself. Yet, we have a long way to go. The whole of the world is now in need for a compassionate and sustainable way of life more than ever, when the horror face of doom loom large in front of us in the form of nearing global climate change or bird flu pandemic. It is now for us to forward and propagate the essence and spirit of veganism to the whole of the planet. Donald Watson is no more with us, but this is a time when vegan community must rededicate itself in full throttle to spread the essence of veganism. There is a desperate need for this, for, it is so unfortunate that, while I am typing my present state of mind on computer with MS WORD, I can still see that, it does not recognize the word ‘vegan’ or ‘veganism’, but I used to wonder, how could MS WORD know almost each and every English word. Also, the print media, to my knowledge have been shy to highlight or publish vegan articles, but it is time that the life and vision of Donald Watson is highlighted through print media. Let us be hopeful and commit ourselves that we shall be able to spread the concept now at a faster pace, so that, together we shall rise to a new world which is without any fear, violence, cruelty, torture or bondage and where only peace, compassion, mercy and care prevail.
