THIS BARBARISM IS NO LONGER ACCEPTABLE IN A CIVILIZED WORLD

 

 

 

TELL EU TO REPUDIATE THIS!

 

Dear friend of animals,

 

Compassionate people worldwide have come a long way in the

struggle to stop Canada's barbaric killing of seal pups. Despite many set backs,

we may soon rejoice in a most sweet victory as the EU Parliament voted for a ban

on the seal trade. However, we still have a few weeks before the final vote--to

ban or NOT to ban--the trade of seal products in Europe. The final vote will

not be cast until sometime in early April.

 

This is a historic opportunity for the European Parliament to

save millions of seals from horrific slaughter, and they are inclined to do so

as their EU committee (25 - 7) has approved a proposal that would ban seal trade

in Europe. The proposed ban would not affect imports from Canada's and

Greenland's Inuit communities.

 

To become law, the ban on products such as pelts, blubber, oil

and meat needs the approval of the entire EU assembly and EU governments.

Nordic EU countries such as Denmark, Sweden and Finland have opposed such a ban,

and at least Canada and Greenland have warned that they will challenge the EU

ban before the World Trade Organization.

 

As you can see, although very promising for a total ban, we

still have an enormous roadblock ahead of us. This is why we must keep up the

pressure so the EU Parliament will see that the world no longer wishes to

tolerate any more bloodshed.
