Hi, Ange

I'd just like to say welcome, whether you're vegan or not. I haven't

heard of your fake bacon, but I have heard of one made by Redwood which

is definitely vegan and is available in health food shops here (UK). I

haven't tried it, 'cos I haven't really felt deprived by the lack of bacon

at all, but I might get it for my son sometime (he's an Andrew too).

I also saw a recipe for fake bacon posted on another list somewhere

..... I'll have a look. Yep. it was on the cat-tea-corner list. Maybe you

could see if it matches up to the kind you like? Be nice to have an alternative

to the eggy kind.

Hope to hear more from you.

Joyce....A quick recipe that I guarantee you will love! It's a bacon

"replacement", and although it seems time-consuming to make the first time,

it becomes easier each time, and is so good for breakfast, just to snack on,

and in BLT sandwiches (which my son calls FBST sandwiches....fake bacon,

spinach, and tomato)!

Freeze (about 1#) extra firm or firm tofu. Thaw and drain overnight or for

several hours...slice as thin as possible (depending on what size "bacon"

you want). Using about a tablespoon of oil (NOT olive oil) in a frying

pan, fry pieces over medium heat until light brown...they will actually be

easy to flip when done on each side. Turn off heat, let cool for a few

minutes. By this time all of the liquid will be gone from the tofu and the

pan.For each pan full, pour a mixture of 2 tablespoons soy sauce and 1

teaspoon of liquid smoke over the browned tofu. It will soak into the tofu

quickly; then sprinkle all slices with about 1 tablespoon of nutritional

yeast flakes (total). Put "bacon" into container suitable for freezing if

not planning to eat immediately. After frozen, put desire number of pieces

in microwave and heat for 30 seconds. It's wonderful stuff! I got this

recipe off the I'net, but don't know where, so if you find something like it

somewhere, it may be done a little differently. If you decide to try it, let

me know how you like it! More later.....Joy
