Guest guest
Hi Christine, For breakfast this morning I had cereal with soy milk. But, sometimes I make tofu bacon, which tastes somewhat like ham and it incredibly good. 1/2 lb firm or extra firm tofu (frozen & thawed) cooking oil 1 T soy sauce 1/2 t Liquid Smoke 2 t brown sugar or substitute some nutritional yeast Slice tofu in thin strips. Brown tofu slices in oil on both sides until crispy. Sprinkle both sides with soy sauce, liquid smoke, sugar, and nutritional yeast. Cook briefly on both sides until coating adheres well. Serve. Another Method: Mix together the soy sauce, liquid smoke, and brown sugar. Marinate the tofu slices in this mixture for an hour or more. Fry in oil, then sprinkle with nutritional yeast. Serve. Tofu scramblers are also good. You might want to visit: www.vegweb.com and www.vegsource.org to search for recipes. You can always substitute sugar with other sweeteners and eggs with egg replacer. May I ask why you have given up flour? Is it all flour or just white flour? I have problems with lunch usually and eat non-healthy food most of the time, but I'm working on it. I have bought a lot of kitchen gadgets that really help me with the vegan diet: ice cream maker, bread maker, deep fryer, and a juicer is on the way. I make ice cream with soy milk, sugar, egg replacer and whatever flavoring I'm in the mood for. I like to make vanilla and buy vegan orange sorbet. Then, I mix them together for a dreamsicle delight that is very tasty. Guest guest
Christine, I'm in the middle of a detoxification fast right now. So all that I've had for the last 24 hours is water. On a normal day however, I usually eat Grapenuts for breakfast because they are fortified with vitamin B-12 (I'm vegan). I put some soymilk on those and have a glass of pure fruit juice. For lunch I usually eat my leftovers from the previous nights dinner and a piece of fruit. For dinners, I usually make meals from either conveniently vegan or simply vegan. Usually, my meals consist of rice with veges and either some kind of beans or nuts mixed in. I've been told that it has to do with the fact that they go into your blood stream so quickly. How long have you been a veg? Do you find it livable? ) Christine

Guest guest
Hi Christine and list members, I've been vegetarian for about 5 years now and vegan for close to a year, with an occasional slip up until the last four months or so. It is wonderful. I really do feel better and my conscience is clear. It does take some time to find enough food that you can have a good variety. Research recipes on the internet and get a few good books. I live in a small town and can't get most of the vegan foods people often mention on lists and websites, so I have to be creative and make everything on my own.
