Guest guest
URGENT, Please Ask President Clinton to designate the ARTIC REFUGE as a NATIONAL MONUMENT. President Clinton will only designate the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as a National Monument if he hears from YOU. Your CALL will make the difference. But time is running out. Congress has not acted on legislation to provide Wilderness protection to the coastal plain, and oil drilling in the Arctic Refuge has once again been inserted into the debate on America's energy policy -- with pro-drilling arguments that conveniently sidestep the fact that Arctic oil cannot, in reality, do anything to alleviate current high oil prices or America's energy needs. The Arctic Refuge needs your help, including all those who depend on the Refuge -- its tremendous wildlife and the Gwich'in people. The time to act is now. SAMPLE LETTER : Dear President Clinton, In defending the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge two years ago, you called this spectacular wilderness, " one of the America's great national treasures. " Now, we need your help again. Big oil interests want to drill in the biological heart of the Refuge. Experts estimate there's only six months of oil in the Refuge! Of course, no amount of oil is worth destroying the beauty and wonder of this amazing place. Mr. President, you have an historic opportunity to protect this wilderness from oil drilling. Please designate the coastal plain of the Arctic Refuge as a National Monument -- and Keep the Arctic Wild, for ALL Americans. Sincerely, Name, Address. --------------------- Contact info : You may call /email President Clinton to ask him to designate the ARTIC REFUGE as a NATIONAL MONUMENT : Call Chief of Staff John Podesta at : 202-456-6798 and Director Jacob Lew at : 202-395-4840.
