Guest guest
Hi! Well since the list is active again I thought I would ask a question. Well I am lacto-ovo and trying to go vegan. This will be my first time being a vegetarian around the holidays. I never liked Turkey anyway but don't even know where to begin. I love the Thanksgiving recipes I saw in another post. I guess I could start there. Of course I will be the only one who is eating it. Any pointers for a 1 person veg*n? I usually did stuff with cheese and all and would like to get rid of that. It was an easy way out. I heard this is usually what beginner's do. Is all of this making sense? Jenn
Guest guest
Hi, Yes - makes perfect sense. We don't celebrate Thanksgiving here in Scotland but at Christmastime everyone assumes turkey is the only thing to be eaten!! We have recently put together some festive recipes on our web site - http://www.veganfamily.co.uk/yule.html though these are mainly for serving 4-6 people but the amounts could be reduced - hope these recipes translate well across the Atlantic - I have tried to list them all in oz/g/cups!! Guest guest
i have Vegetarian Times Thanksgiving Cookbook and it has some wonderful things. I usually just work around the meal and eat everything but the turkey, stuffing, and any jell-o dishes. I am just now going vegan well I am almost there about 98% anyway so now I will really have to watch. No pumpkin pie unless I would make it. I like the cookbook though if you don't want to purchase it maybe you could get it at your library. Hope this helps ya. Guest guest
Vegetarian Times magazine also is a great resource....I am looking for the Nov issue right now..and they often have egg and dairy free recipes.. Maybe it would be neat if some of you could share your T-day menu's to give some of us " new " ones some ideas... and can I ask, why is not ok to eat honey? Thanks! Guest guest
I too, am "the only one eating it" for now, in our household, and there is a book I have been considering buying called the "single vegan" has anyone out there got it and what do you think of the recipes? Thanks, Jill - lucyburnett Wednesday, November 01, 2000 3:52 AM Re: Have a question about Thanksgiving Hi, Yes - makes perfect sense. Guest guest
I just made a simple meal last month for Canadian Thanksgiving. Instead of turkey, I cooked a Veat Breast (technically a chicken breast alternative), which is made from soy protein and is very tasty. The texture is also very meat-like. I sliced the breast and served it with cranberry sauce, vegetarian gravy, mashed potatoes and stuffing. The whole meal tasted very authentic and was a bit hit. Susan Cara -- VeggieFiles.com has vegetarian product reviews, recipes, cooking tips and lots more... Find lots of soy ideas in the " Easy Ways to Eat More Soy " booklet. Get your own copy at www.VeggieFiles.com. > Hi! Well since the list is active again I thought I would ask a > question. Well I am lacto-ovo and trying to go vegan. Guest guest
Thank you. I didn't even know Vegetarian Times had a cookbook like that. I hope also they do something with a Thanksgiving theme in their magazine. I always buy that and they have good recipes in there. Guest guest
Has anybody answered you about the honey? I heard because it kills bees when people take the honey away. There are some websites about the subject. WOuld you like for me to post them? This is a very nice thought, but unfortunately it doesn't work like that. For more, excellent, information on why honey isn't vegan, please have a look at this site: http://www.vegetus.org/honey/honey.htm Or, to read more on the assumption that they would just fly away if they wanted to, the following link will take you directly to the portion of the site which addresses this: http://www.vegetus.org/honey/swarming.htm I hope this helps to clear things up...
