Guest guest
I've been a vegan for five months but am now trying to become superstrict in weeding out white sugar and honey. I've been depending on Total cereal for vitamins and calcium and all that good stuff, but I noticed that it contains both sugar and honey, and the thought that I'm still eating it makes me cringe. However, I am a college student and therefore have limited time and resources to make balanced meals for myself (which is why I've been living off of Total). So, is there any other purely vegan cereal out there that has all of those vitamins and such? Or can anyone reccomend good vitamin supplements? The kind I've been using has hundreds of times the amount of the daily reccomendation for some vitamins and minerals, and then only a small percentage of others. Is this how all supplements are? I always thought that taking too much of a certain vitamin or mineral was just as bad as getting too much. I'd appreciate any help! Robyn P.S. This group is fantastic and I'm very excited for the upcoming holidays because I've talked my meat-eating family into letting me make them a vegan Thanksgiving meal. Thanks to all of you for giving out all of these wonderful recipes so that I am not totally lost next week!
Guest guest
Not only that, but some vitamins and minerals should not be taken at the same time, because they block absorption of each other, and taking large doses of some vitamins can mask deficiency symptoms of others, causing irreversible harm. If you know you are not getting enough of one particular vitamin, take it by itself. Don't depend on a multi. Guest guest
Hi Robyn!! Where do you go to school? I am also a college student and I enjoy this list as well. As far as cereal goes, I don't know of many vegan cereals that contain 100% of vitamins and minerals as does Total, but I eat anything that Nature's Path brand makes. They seem to be high in fiber and many vitamins and very low in sugar, in fact there is barely any at all. Also I love Kashi, though I don't know if that is vegan either. But you could check it out. I am not a vegan, but AM vegetarian so I do try to watch for certain things in food. Are youo trying to avoid any kind of sugar at all, or just looking for a cereal with more vitamins? Check out your local HFS and see what they've got. Hope this helps! Enjoy school! (And break coming up!!!) Beth

Last year was so much easier because I was ovo-lacto veggie and so I could eat in the dining halls, but now I have to do all my cooking in my apartment, but time is limited so I eat a lot of spaghetti and vegan burgers and Total. I'm looking to avoid all non- organic sugar, and get all my vitamins and minerals. I'll probably start taking a multi-vitamin supplement regularly. Anyway, thanks for your suggestions! Guest guest
Hello Robin It appears to me that your problem is that you need a real healthy natural food store or a supermarket that has a healthy natural food section. That is why you are finding vitamins that suck and cereal with additives. I hope I have helped. anna --- Robyn <abbeyroad81 wrote: > I've been a vegan for five months but am now trying > to become > superstrict in weeding out white sugar and honey. > I've been > depending on Total cereal for vitamins and calcium > and all that good > stuff, but I noticed that it contains both sugar and > honey, and the > thought that I'm still eating it makes me cringe. > However, I am a > college student and therefore have limited time and > resources to make > balanced meals for myself (which is why I've been > living off of > Total).
