Guest guest
I dont know what the dynamics of this list are, if its strictly recipis or what...but here it goes. I feel like some outragous fear monger sometimes telling people about their food choices. They look at me with one of those blank stares as if they are thinking " She's turning into a weirdo! " Its not fun, but I am sure that you all can relate. Especially when people come to eat at our house. (Wheres the beef?) I cant feed my kids hotdogs (realones) I now know just how they are made and what goes into them and it is really really bad. If mad cow ever really enters this country...I am almost certain the biggest victims will be those who eat hot dogs and other mechanically seperated things. But that is another issue all together. LJ...what is this " golden rice " is it some GMO crop of corn or something?? Get this one...I called the nestles company the other day to inquire if sweetarts were made with any animal biproducts and the lady mistook my question and answered... " Yes...some of our plant derived ingredients come from Genetically Modified crops " (!!!!!) I couldnt believe it! And at the same time I could knowing that most Americans are oblivious to GMO's in their foods and really arent going after the manufacturers about it. Any way...how about that corn and potato chowder recipe? LOL Sounds good Jo-Ann
Guest guest
I'm new to this list, and brand new to being a vegan. I haven't eaten meat in years, but I just recently eliminated eggs, milk products, and the occasional poultry. Here's my thing, I don't try to lecture or even inform people about their food choices, that just scares them off. I just tell them, "I respect you for your opinion, I hope you can respect mine." That way when they come over, they know they won't be getting any meat and they won't feel bad about it! I also have some 'nice reading material' in my guest bathroom! <grin> I think if you let people make their own decisions, they will feel better about it, and certainly more comfortable about being around you. If they ask me why I don't eat meat, I try hard not to go into a huge discussion. They don't really want to hear all that anyway! (trust me!) I usually say, if I have a reasonable alternative to killing an animal, why not take it? (short answer, and it really throws them for a loop!) Two of my neices have already slowed down on their meat-eating. Just wait until come visit next time and stay with their vegan auntie! LOL One more suggestion, buy a really HUGE vegetarian cookbook, and let your kids pick something out that they want to eat, and help make. That way they feel like they are part of the decision, and not just stuck with it! Get one with lots of pictures so the young ones can participate too!
