Guest guest
A GMO is a genetically modified organism... In otherwords, it is made with products that have been altered by scientists in the hope that it will help crops to be resitant against disease, produce larger yields and other such claims. Personally, I steer clear of GMO's and in turn purchase almost all organic foods. It's expensive but the only way to know for sure since the US doesn't have a policy and with Bush in office I don't expect to see anything positive on the environmental or quasi-environmental front in the next 4 years. Guest guest
> > Genetically Modified Organism > Is GMO the same as Hydrogenated vegetable oils? That's why I don't buy morning star products because hydrogenated oils. My kids used to love the corn dogs (might not be vegan) and then one day I checked the label and I was shocked. I always try very hard not to give them hydrogenated oil because they are so bad for children. Lisa
Guest guest
Laura, I've been trying to become a vegan for about a year now. It is challenging in many ways...mostly because you have to be more conscious of what is in the food you want to eat. I have been a vegetarian since I was 14, I'm 31 now, so it has long been second-nature for me to flip over any food I buy and read the back label to make sure it didn't have lard etc in it. Now I have to check for milk and eggs. It sounds so simple but in practice it limits your food choices from other sources. Also, to me being vegan isn't just about what I eat, other choices come into play. Like the whole leather issue. What helps me is to always have some food on hand, even if it's just a piece of fruit in my purse. That way if I'm pressed for time I won't be tempted to grab a candy bar if I need a snack. Also drinking lots of water and tea helps, both seem to decrease my wanting junk food anyway like chocolate or cheese curls or whatever. Guest guest
To help overcome the candy bar impulse, I've found a great substitute--the balance bar. It's available at Costco and buying two 15-bar boxes brings the price down considerably--I'm guessing to around 75 cents each. It has 7 gm fat, 15 gm protein, and 22 gm of carbo plus too much other good stuff to name. One bar has 210 calories and comes in 4-6 interesting flavors--I'm looking at " Caramel Nut Blast. " For me it's often a meal and a candy bar in one package. What a deal!! Oh, it has whey, so it's definitely not vegan. Guest guest
Why would any one want to be a vegan? I know you can but that's not a reason. Sometimes it seems that people are trying to be better than God. I don't think it will work. Guest guest
Her reasons are really her business and I doubt it has anything at all to do with " trying to be better than " god (?) or anyone else. This type of comment is not constructive at best and insensitive baiting at worst. ~ PT ~ A man has to live with himself, and he should see to it that he always has good company. ~Charles Evans Hughes, jurist (1862-1948) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~> , " Jack Styger " < selenasking@i...> wrote: > Why would any one want to be a vegan?
