Guest guest
Hi! I'm new to your group and I was wondering if someone could help me. I made a new friend at work and she's vegan. I'm vegetarian (but can't quite make the step to veganism). I have a great product called " Meat of Wheat Chicken Style " that I found at the local health food store (and for those people who were discussing protein content, 1 serving of the Meat of Wheat Chicken Style has 24 grams of protein). Anyway, I make a really good Vegetarian Chicken Pot Pie and I want to try to make a vegan version for her. I was sent a recipe for a vegan pie crust (which she's going to try to make since I'm not that skilled in the kitchen) to let me know how it turns out. But the recipe also calls for milk and egg products. I'm sure that soy milk would work for the milk but I'm stumped as to how to do an egg substitute. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you in advance for your help. )
Guest guest
Hi Will, My husband and I are fairly new (6 months) to veganism, but we've had great success using a product called Ener-G (brand) Egg Replacer in place of eggs in recipies. It's mostly just potato starch, but its quite easy and we can't tell the difference! I found it on our grocery store in the health food section-- it comes in a red and yellow box, about the size of a cake mix. You just add water and go. If, however, the eggs have a different function in a recipie (say, as a binder) you could use other things to replace the eggs, e.g., an equal amount of apple sauce. Just let the type of recipie be your guide, or so I've heard. Hope this helps a little! Take care all, Beth Will Bowden [willparkinson] Monday, June 04, 2001 5:37 AM " Chicken " Pot Pie Hi!
