Guest guest
A belated thank you to all who posted vegan birthday cake recipes. My son will probably not be able to eat cake this year, but we are passing along the recipes to a friend who has a son allergic to eggs. To Jill, I wish I could have breast-fed my son, but his autoimmune problem is so severe that he could not be breast fed. We found this out after 6 months of breastfeeding that was accompanied by chronic projectile vomiting and failure to thrive. By the time we got a diagnosis, when he was 8 months old, he had very severe inflammation (bordering on ulcers) in his esophagus. Since then, he has been drinking a prescription hypoallergenic formula that contains no proteins (it's amino acid based). At this point, Ari is doing much better. He is 16 months old and his esophagus is healed. The autoimmune problem, though, is with him for life. Right now he can only eat rice, carrots and banana. He recently failed a peach trial. He has also failed squash, sweet potato and pear. We are currently trying oatmeal. Best wishes to all! Susan K, mom to Ari
