We use

earth balance vegan margarine; it’s a very good substitute for the other.

I wish I had some good advice on the other problems, I have had to deal with

this for years, I have two small children and have had to go through birthday party’s

and other gatherings, slowly but surely my family is starting to come around

and keeping more vegan things on hand. As far as eating out you may as well

just give it up, I eat at wild oats and once in a while taco bell but other

then that most restaurants just don’t get the whole vegan issue.  I think I would plan to bring my own meals,

which is what I have done many times. If you go to friend they should try to

prepare something for you, my friend went so far as to buy a vegan cook book

just so she could cook for us when we come over.

Good

luck!

Also many chinese restaurants have vegetable fried rice that you can get without eggs. Just make sure there is no fish or oyster sauce in it. Usually there isn't, but it is good to check. I have found a really good vegetable fried rice near me. Also At pizza hut you can get thin crust pizza with veggies, obviously minus the cheese. At many "real" mexican restaurants, you can eat the guacomole, salsa, and home made chips--just double check with them. And since you are in California, you should be able to find some natural food places. Also, many ethiopian restaurants have vegan options. I don't know what city you live in, but when I visited San Francisco, I had no problem at all finding food. Even a cafe called "pork chop cafe" or somthing silly like that had vegan items.

Good Luck,

Alan
