Guest guest
My family and I will be going on a campout next month, and I was wondering if anyone might have ideas on what to take to eat? We'll be there for 4 nights. I am having a hard time coming up with a menu. Any help would be appreciated. Robin
Guest guest
Hi, Robin. I have found some great vegan camping food ideas, recipes, etc. at the following websites (listed in order of helpfulness): http://kettlecook.tripod.com/camp.html www.backcountryfood.com http://www.netspace.net.au/~rozen/bushwalking/food/vegitar.htm We camp all the time and prefer easy-to-make, good-tasting options. We often bring packages of tempeh and pita bread " grilled " above the campfire (wrapped in aluminum foil) to make sandwiches with 1/4-1/3 bottle of dressing and salad greens/veggies (must be eaten on the first day of camping). Other dinner items that work well are canned chili and " mix-with-water " pasta or rice dishes (you can mix these with canned beans/legumes for flavor/protein). We also take instant oatmeal and instant grain coffee for breakfast (again, you'll need water heated on the fire/campstove for these), granola bars, single-serving boxes of soy milk, baggies of dried fruit & nut mixture, bagels (they keep/travel better than regular bread--just slice them before you go) with peanut butter and jam (also keeps well), lots of fruit (oranges are especially great, as they travel well, come with their own packaging, and are naturally bug-repellant). Good luck and have fun! -Michelle
Guest guest
Here's some of the stuff we eat when we go camping: I like to take a potato, cut it in half, then put a slab of margarine and thick slice of onion in the middle, salt and pepper it, put the halves back together and wrap it in foil. Double wrap it and then throw it in the camp fire for a while. These are awesome. We like to roast Smart dogs over the fire. Occasionally I'll bring a can of vegetarian baked beans and heat them on my cookstove. For breakfast we usually have pancakes. I mix all the dry ingredients together beforehand and put them in a tupperware bowl. Then at the campsite I'll add rice milk from the cooler and fruit...good stuff. We usually bring a tube of Gimme Lean sausage for breakfast too. There's a few ideas for ya.
