I am sure the fruit is just raw, but the veggies is what I have thought about before myself. So many times I have over bought and it ends up spoiling in my fridge What a waste!! Do you just use freezer bags? (remember, you can save them a lot of the times~recycle!) For the love of life, Jo-Ann Vegan-Talk!! Ok, this may be spam but, Tupperware has really great containers for storing veggies longer than what they normally would stay fresh just in the fridge. They also have great containers for freezing, they keep it MUCH fresher than zip loc bags. Yes, I do sell Tupperware that is why it is somewhat spam, let me know if you want details, if you do decide to buy some, don't order online, it costs more. Yes, I either blanch them or go ahead and cook them. And I do use (and re-use!) zip-lock freezer bags. Guest guest
So you have to cook veggies b4 you freeze them? What's blanching? What about fruit- do you have to do something special to it beside chop and throw in a freezer bag? All it means is that you put them in boiling water for a short time (a few seconds to 3 minutes, depending on the vegetable), then plunge them in cold water to keep them from actually cooking. I use the information from " The Joy of Cooking " to find out how long to blanch each kind, but I bet there are charts on the web somewhere. With fruit, I just wash it and put it in freezer bags. (I also peel it and cut it up if necessary.) I do bell peppers like that, too--just cut them in half and seed them first.
