I have always thought of blanching as this: Boil some water, add veggies.

When they turn BRIGHT in color, they are blanched :o)

That sounds like a good rule of thumb. The funny thing is, when you say a

person blanched, it means they turned pale! LOL I wonder how that word

came to mean such different things.
