Drain the beans and add 5 cups fresh water. Bring to boil, then lower heat and simmer for 1 1/2 hours. Stir occasionally. Add:3/4 tsp. salt1/4 tsp. garlic salt1/4 tsp. onion salt1 bay leaf, optionalchopped onion, optionalcrushed garlic, optionalfresh cilantro, optionalSimmer 30 minutes more or until tender.
