Guest guest Posted September 15, 2001 Report Share Posted September 15, 2001 Split Pea Chowder Source: The Best of Silver Hills Cookbook 3 cups water 1/4 cup brown rice 1 cup split peas 1 tsp. salt 1/2 cup sauteed onions 1/4 cup finely diced carrots 1/4 cup finely diced celery 1/4 tsp. basil Pour water into a 2-quart saucepan and bring to a boil. Add rice to rapidly boiling water. Cover, reduce heat and let cook 30 minutes. Add split peas and cook another 30 minutes. Add remaining ingredients, stir and let simmer 10 - 12 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Serve hot with croutons or toast.
