Guest guest
> is it really worth bothering the green bay packers to change > their name to the " pickers' when you know it's just not going to > happen? pick your battles. Not to seem like an apologist for PETA or any other group, but it is sometimes excellent strategy to work on a whole bunch of fronts at once. You might know that it's not going to happen, but the suggestion actually makes people take notice. While we are all talking against such strategies, we are still advertising those very strategies that we consider 'foolish'. Free advertising ;=) Additionally, I am reminded of some racist slurs that used to be inherent in the names of, say, some products or in their advertising. When it was first suggested that they change it sounded silly to some people, but later it became the norm to avoid offence. (Few of us would, I hope - for example - put a cigar store Indian outside our premises or display a Little Black Sambo statue on our lawn - nor would we use the same or any such sterotype to advertise our businesses.)
