Guest guest
Does anyone have a recipe for cranberry sauce that: *uses fresh, raw cranberries *doesn't use refined sugar *tastes great! This is on my list of foods to prepare for the family Thanksgiving dinner this year. This is the first year this *task* has been assigned to me. Thanks for any help! LaDonna, when you say " refined " sugar, do you mean any kind of granulated sugar, even if it's vegan? If so, you could try this: Put one package of cranberries in a pan, add 3/4 cup of agave nectar, and add enough water to almost cover the cranberries (about 3/4-1 cup). Cook on high until berries start to pop. Then turn heat lower and cook, stirring occasionally, until it forms a thick sauce. Let cool and serve. I haven't tried it using agave yet. My regular way to do this is with one cup of sugar and one cup water. You can use Florida Crystals sugar if you're only avoiding the sugar for vegan reasons. If you do try it with the agave, please let me know how it comes out. Guest guest
Thanks, Susan. I appreciate the idea and will check out "agave nectar" at the health food store. I haven't tried it yet. And yes, I'm trying to avoid even Florida Crystals for this meal. . .some of the family members are into whole foods and I want to make something everyone can eat. I haven't tried it yet. You really should. I love it! I use it anywhere a recipe calls for honey--and I put it on muffins and biscuits and things like I used to do honey. It's got a lighter taste than honey and it's actually sweeter than sugar (so you use less of it). I hope you find some and like it.
