HI, I don't post much, and am not a ~true~ vegan, and I still long for dairy.

Anyway, I'm exclusively breastfeeding my 8 month, and he has a dairy intolerance(made him real puky, and he was on meds for reflux, but once I eliminated dairy from my diet he was fine). For close to 2 months he has had this rash on his anus(it's the allergic ring baby books talk about), and I thought it was b/c I would occasionally cheat(then feel really bad, poor baby cows), but I have been totally dairy free(I'm not real sure about hidden dairy I've heard people talk about)for over month.

Someone told me the next thing to eliminate is soy(another highly allergic food to babies). I guess my cheese life is over :( Is tofu okay to eat(I make a lasagna with tofu and spinach mixed and spread over noodles like cheese & it's really yummy)? And I've been eating(on occasion) Toffuti cream cheese and sour cream, are those out, too?

What can I eat now? I'm going to increase my raw veggies, make veggie soup, and fruits. Even though I desperately miss eating dairy, meat and eggs, I feel really blech after I eat that stuff. I never noticed it before. I think once I totally denied my body that, my body was able to let me know what it really wants and needs.

I don't know if I even asked the question I needed answered. lol! I know I have a real hard time at home b/c dh is MEAT eater, and has a hard time trying something new, and all my friends think I'm crazy. Thanks for letting me ramble on. Aimee

Hi, Aimee. My husband, Fred, is a kinesiologist. We just tested your baby (yes, I know that sounds very, very strange...) long distance using me as a surrogate.

You are more than welcome to respond to Fred off-line at pyrite. I just didn't know whether this was something you wanted to share with the group. I'm only addressing this to the group so others can get a sense of all the other things around us that affect us without our realizing...

Some things began to show up...

1. no real dairy allergy for the child and it is definitely NOT your milk, nor are his stools causing the irritation

2. major sensitivity to the diapers (we didn't test for cloth vs pampers, just diapers in general).

3. major sensitivity to detergent you're using, as well as any fabric softener.

4. getting back to the milk...he showed slightly weak with regular store-bought milk, but no problems with certified organic cow's milk.

5. regarding soy...he showed huge weakness for regular soy; less reactive with organic soy; but no reaction at all with non-GMO, organic soy. (GMO means genetically modified).

This "testing" doesn't say that you ARE using these substances (detergents, etc.), but it says that he is allergic to them. So, if you use them - stop. If you don't use them - don't start.

Now, a couple of questions for you, if you want to continue this with Fred...

1. what kind of a diaper are you using

2. what kind of a detergent are you using, as well as what kind, if any, fabric softener

3. what do you use to clean his little bottom and wash him around; and what else do you put on his wee bottom (powders, salves, gels, wipes, etc.)

4. although you say you're breastfeeding him only, are you giving him any treats at all?

5. also, now to you...what do you wash yourself with

6. what do you wash your hands with and what do your hands come in contact with

Fred does this for a living. It is very, very reliable, and he's more than happy to help you.

Sincerely,

Rose

for yourself, try Rice Dream/Imagine products, their " ice cream " products

are super tasty, and the Rice Dram " Milk " is wonderful too. It definately

helps to keep dairy product cravings away.As far as stopping soy, Id check

with a nitritionist or allergy specialist first, soy is superb for its

nutritional values, even though it can be overdone....
