Sun Burgers

4 1/2 cups hot water

1 1/2 tsp. thyme

5 cups quick oats

1/8 tsp. garlic powder

1 1/2 cup raw sunflower seeds

1/4 cup minced dried onion

5 Tbsp. liquid smoke

6 Tbsp. soy sauce or Bragg's Aminos

1/4 cup nutritional yeast flakes

1/2 cup chopped sun dried tomatoes, optional

Mix all dry ingredients together, then add liquids. Let stand for 1/2 hour

to thicken. Form into patties and bake at 350 degrees on olive oiled cookie

sheet. Bake for 35 minutes then turn over and bake 25 minutes more. These

freeze well.

Liquid Smoke is a flavoring made of herbs and spices. It is usually

available in the spice section of most supermarkets. A similiar brand item

is Kitchen Boquet. I made this recipe recently and did not have either item

in the kitchen. I made the following adaptations and the recipe turned out

fine:

omit: liquid smoke

add: 1 additional Tbsp. of Bragg's Amino Acids

add: 2 Tbsp. Bill's Best Chick'nish

add: 2 Tbsp. Bill's Best Beef seasoning

add: 2 Tbsp. McKay's Chicken-Style Seasoning (their vegan version)

I did not have sun-dried tomatoes, so left them out. I used quinoa flakes

instead of oats. Hmmmmmmmm, sounds like I basically reinvented the recipe,

huh! The family decided that these patties would be delicious with walnuts

instead of sunflower seeds also. Hope this helps. . .
