Guest guest
I am not sure I know that honey isn't. This is a good question. I have one that someone might help me with. I lost 5 pounds since going from Vegetarian to Vegan. I only weigh 111 pounds and today the doctor told me at 50 I had better start gaining weight. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks Judy VegFam wrote: Is bee pollen vegan? *\/*Melissa*\/*"All the arguments to prove human superiority cannot shatter this hard fact; In suffering, the animals are our equals."~Peter Singer~author of Animal Liberationwww.WhyVegan.orgSensible Gun Laws = Safe Kidswww.MillionMomMarch.com**************************************I pledge my allegiance to the flag, and my heart to the Soldier who protects it!!!**************************************God Bless America**************************************
Guest guest
I consider myself vegan because I want domination attitudes and practices to end. I don't want to contribute to the disregard of any creatures. And I respect insects among these creatures to a degree. I avoid ingredients made by insects but I am not as committed I find to occasionally compromise my ethics in regards to bugs, sometimes I will eat something that has honey in it if the rest of the ingredients are better to consume than the alternatives I could get with out honey/pollen/propolis that may be available to me. I dont emotionally feel great pangs when I kill an insect. mostly I try not to kill bugs and let them live because of the principal of being commited to nonviolence but it is harder for me to care about bugs. I consider myself vegan oriented. I think those who use insects but no other creature are vegan oriented. I use insects occasionally and sometimes I kill them even though I could have let them go somehow, but most of the time I avoid killing them and usuing their products. I tend to justify killing them as that is what they get for invading my territory. I think this makes me a weaker vegan and those that totally dont hurt bugs or use bugs are much stronger vegans than me. Maybe someday I will respect their lives better than I do. but for now I respect their life because I believe that they have a right to it but not because I deeply care about them. I empathise with all the mammals, birds, and fish, and even lizards but bugs I feel pretty cold towards. But I do try to let them fly out of the house rather than just kill them, also I try to catch and throw them out but sometimes I go for the convience of just killing them, just like I go for the convience of consuming something with honey rather than avoid this too. I do hate insect cruelty such as stepping on snails or pulling off wings etc. But sometimes I just smoosh an ant or a spider. sometimes I love an article of clothing so much and think it so nice that I buy it even though it has silk. and sometimes when I am out I eat a snack with honey in it. I am working on being cruelty free but I just have a hard time consistantly carring for the insects of our world. And I don't mind at all those who dont care to limit bee products calling themselves vegan. I think just like there are lacto-vegetarians there needs to be bee-vegans. But I will still aim to be vegan without the consumption and disregard to insects. But I don't see that day coming any time soon, after all when I drive my car a lot of bugs get smashed, and I don't care about them, i care about cleaning the mess instead. I don't believe there are any perfectly pure vegan folk in this first world country. but they have the right to call themselves vegans if overall they do not contruibute to animal cruelty. I think vegans can consume honey, pollen or propalis but it would probably be more philosophical consistant to avoid those ingredients. And many people wouldn't consider themselves truly vegan unless they did avoid insect ingredients too. kim In a message dated 2/17/2003 1:15:05 PM Pacific Standard Time, writes: << 1.
