This is great. Secondly (and I apologize if this topic has been covered before, but I looked in the archives and could find no mention of it) there is a butter substitute I've read about called Smart Balance and I cannot figure out if it is vegan or not. I've read both that it is and that it isn't. Does anybody here know for sure? I've heard that you can use it in baking besides just spreading it on your bread. Also, while I'm on the topic, what are the best butter substitutes for baking and for other types of cooking, in people's opinions? By best I mean most useful and healthiest. Thank you, Aimmah Hello ~ Smart Balance is not vegan. But Earth Balance is. And it's delicious. We use it on everything ~ and it's especially yummy melted a little on steamed veggies! ~ Jo ---------------------- "Uneducated people believe what they are told... Guest guest
Rebecca, here's the ingredient list for Earth Balance margarine: expeller pressed natural oil blend (soy, palm, canola and olive), filtered water, pure salt, natural flavor (derived from grains), soy protein, soy lecithin, lactic acid (non-dairy, derived from sugar beets), vitamin A palmitate and beta-carotene color. Guest guest
Thank You Shelly. What does one do if they are allergic to soy? My son (almost 1) is still breastfeeding and he and I are on a yeast, sugar, dairy, wheat, corn, and soy free diet. It leaves me pretty much limited. Any suggestions? This is temporary until we find out what he is really allergic too. Guest guest
Rebecca, All those allergies must be a challenge! It's challenge enough to avoid wheat OR soy OR corn OR yeast, but all three! I'm mildly allergic to wheat, but as long as I keep the quantity low, I can tolerate small amounts. Dr. Joel Fuhrman has a book called " Eat to Live " . His " diet " is both for weight loss and optimizing health. His plan includes no sugar and minimizes soy, corn and wheat and other grains. You may want to check it out, if only to get some menu ideas (it has a recipe section in the back) for things that you can eat. I've followed his eating plan for two months now, and I've haven't felt this well for a long, long time. Good luck to you! Shelly --- Rebecca Feldpausch <rebecca wrote: > Thank You Shelly.
