Guest guest
So I bought a jar of olives and one of garlic cloves.... Got home....THEN checked the label.....ay....Lactic acid?! What the....?! What *is* lactic acid? I'm assuming it comes from milk...Can these foods be bought without that ingredient, and if so, anyone suggest a canadian or american brand name? Then, an ordinary bag of dill pickle flavour potatoe chips {Mmmmm} .......checking the ingredients.....GLUCOSE?! Isn't that like, from blood or something......?? Can anyone suggest a vegan Canadian brand name? [No offense Americans, but Canada has more *types* of chips....Like Ketchup....Mmmmm......] Sorry for so many questions but I'm kinda frustrated :[ I'm new to veganism and it's kinda confusing cuz I dunno what I can eat. Even when foods *seem* like they are vegan, they end up not. Grrrrr. -Kayleen
Guest guest
Lactic acid, as far as I know, can be either vegan or non. You could call the manufacturer, I guess. I eat green olives (queens, mmmm) that have lactic acid as an ingredient...Walmart brand. I assume it's the vegan lactic acid. I could be wrong. Hopefully someone will tell me if they know I'm wrong. Glucose is sugar. I think blood has glucose in it, but I seriously doubt if the glucose in your chips was from blood. Here's a good link for a new vegan to start with: http://www.vegan.com/faq.html#Animal I've been an ethical vegan for about 8 years now. Like the faq says, you only have to learn about a good vegan food once. There are a LOT of really good, really flavorful, TOTALLY vegan foods. Enjoy your experiences finding them. I am. Guest guest
There are non-dairy sources of lactic acid, but probably if the label didn't specify, I would guess that it's dairy-based. Glucose is sugar. Shelly --- Kejlina <flossie_and_the_unicorns wrote: > So I bought a jar of olives and one of garlic > cloves.... > Got home....THEN checked the label.....ay....Lactic > acid?! Guest guest
I believe that lactic acid comes from muscle tissue of animals and can also come from plants...your best bet is to email the company that made the product to ask the source of their lactic acid...
