Any Iowans?

I recently went from vegetarian to vegan, but was wondering where everybody

shops? I live in the Cedar Rapids area and every soy or veggie cheese seems to

have casein. I've looked for brands like Tofutti, but haven't yet found them.

And I get really weird looks when I ask about nutritional flakes or seitan. I

just wanted to know if there was anyone in the area and if they could point me

in the right direction. Thanks!

Kim,

How about a former Iowan? Moved to Virginia from Cedar Rapids a couple of years ago. I don't know if it's still there or if it carries anything like what you're looking for, but there a was a place on 1st Avenue between the QT and the McDonalds called the Health Hut (I believe) that might be a place to check out.

Good luck in your search!

There's a place online where you can get the tofutti

cream cheese: http://www.nodairy.com, but I don't know

of anywhere online you can order the cheese.

Soyco also makes some vegan cheese, not all of them

though! You can ask a local health food store to order

it for you. Tell them it is available from Tree of

Life (large distributor) if they use them, so is the

tofutti. The soyco vegan cheeses are labeled in the

Tree of Life book as vegan. If you order it in the

health food stores minimum, usually 3 for cheese, they

probably won't mind getting if for you.

The tofutti better than cream cheese is really good...I just tried it

recently...it's not great for you, like its nonvegan counterpart, it is fatty

and has little nutritional value...but it's yummy!
