Guest guest
When I was diagnosed with asthma in my mid-twenties, as well as developing allergies to the cats I'd had all my life, the medical est. recommended a combo of several daily meds & no lifestyle changes. I have opted instead for no meds & lots of lifestyle changes, which have effectively controlled my allergies & asthma to the point where I can even tolerate cats again. I've done a lot of reading & research online & that is the key to success in managing any condition: inform yourself, don't take the medical est. word for ANYTHING. They are good at dealing w/acute, life threatening problems but terrible at managing chronic conditions because their attitude is all wrong & their ignorance is incredible. This is not to imply that all alternative medicine is good either -- a lot of it is just quacks & more pills. Common sense & your own experience are the best medicines. For those w/respiratory problems like asthma, garlic is supposed to be very beneficial to the lungs. I try to eat at least a few cloves per day. From the Ecowine article: The Mayo Clinic lists the following foods as commonly containing sulfites: Cookies, crackers, pie and pizza crusts, flour tortillas, bakery products containing dried fruits or vegetables, beer, cocktail mixes, beverage mixes, wine, wine coolers, filled milk (milk enriched in fat content with vegetable oil), canned clams, dried cod; fresh, frozen, canned and dried shrimp; frozen lobster; scallops, processed fruit including canned, bottled, or frozen fruit; dried fruit; canned, bottled, or frozen " dietetic " fruit for fruit juices; maraschino cherries, glazed fruit, precut potatoes, condiments and relishes (horseradish, onion and pickle relish, pickles, olives, salad dressing mixes, wine vinegar); guacamole dip, confections and frostings containing brown, raw, powdered, or white sugar derived from sugar beets What's with sulfites in raw sugar? Do those of you with sulfite allergies have to avoid sugar, too?
