Guest guest
Hello everyone - I will be going camping this weekend (first time as a vegetarian/vegan) and need to know what foods I can take that don't require to be kept cold. I will have access to a small fridge but don't want to use a lot of their space. One meal I have thought of is vegan chili - with canned beans, spices, canned tomatoes (or fresh). I can take granola for breakfast with boxed soy milk or cereal/energy bars and gorp, that type of thing. Any other ideas for cooked foods (on a grill or in a pot)? Thanks so much Leigh
Guest guest
How about planning shishkabobs with the usual veggies and seasonings and using tofu or tempe. Pack a bag of good rice to go with them... - Leigh Hudson Tuesday, August 31, 2004 9:03 AM Help needed for camping trip Hello everyone - I will be going camping this weekend (first time as a vegetarian/vegan) and need to know what foods I can take that don't require to be kept cold. Guest guest
oooooh what about prescooped potato skins, bring the toppings in a separate bag and cook em on the grill over the fire... I'm not a big advocate of tin foil, but I'd probably use some for this heather - Leigh Hudson Tuesday, August 31, 2004 9:03 AM Help needed for camping trip Hello everyone - I will be going camping this weekend (first time as a vegetarian/vegan) and need to know what foods I can take that don't require to be kept cold. Guest guest
hey there, we are avid campers and actually camping as a vegan is easier then camping as a carnivore. our all time favorite is fajitas. take sliced bell peppers (a variety of colors is more fun, but not nessicary), sweet onion, jalpinos, and potatoes (all can be pre sliced at home except the potato, although we never do but can be done for simplicity) add a little olive oil, a alot of chopped garlic, cumin, chili, and paprika powder. and wrap in foil and toss on some hot coals flipping every 2 or 3 mins for about 10 mins then warm some tortilla over the fire wrap up and add your fav topingns (i like tomatoes and avocado). even all our carni friends always ask if we can bring enough for every one every time we go camping. if your looking for quick and easy and you have access to a camp stove instant oat meal works good as do raman noodles (very few are actually vegan so watch out) also some of the lipton rice and sauce packets are vegan and easy to cook on a camp stove. but if you are not in a hurry it's always more fun to cook real food. we like to challenge our selves by trying to recreat our favorite home foods over a fire. enjoy your trip peace jeff
Guest guest
Hi Leigh, I just traveled vegan for the first time myself, and it was not as scary and chanllenging as I'd feared. I packed a lot of snacky food with me, like homemade seasoned sunflower seeds, homemade vegan pesto toasts, and almonds. Since there's so much great summer produce available now, I made a lot of portobello burgers, corn, which I discovered keeps at room temp for a day or two, and bruschetta (a large, finely chopped tomato, a clove or two of finely chopped garlic, basil of you have it, garlic salt, a teaspoon of olive oil, and a teaspoon of basalmic vinegar, served cold on grilled bread - yum!). Anyway, I'm new to the game myself, so I'm no expert, but I hope that helps! Have fun, Liana , " Leigh Hudson " <leighhudson@v...> wrote: > Hello everyone - I will be going camping this weekend (first time as a vegetarian/vegan) and need to know what foods I can take that don't require to be kept cold. > I will have access to a small fridge but don't want to use a lot of their space. > One meal I have thought of is vegan chili - with canned beans, spices, canned tomatoes (or fresh).
