Guest guest
Hello to all. My name is Dixie and I used to be vegan. I stopped because it seemed too difficult with a husband who eats meat, dairy, etc. I also found it quite challenging to eat where we are ont the go all of the time. Recently, after much reflection and soul searching, I have made the decision to return to that way of life that I feel is right, no matter what. Interestingly, I have come to this conclusion of being vegan just before Thanksgiving. I am still in the process of deciding how to deal with it. We are invited to two family dinners this year. In the past, I did not partake of the meat and gravy, but did have some items like mashed potatoes (butter and milk). I found myself physically sick after consuming dairy products. I did bring other dishes that I could and did eat with no problem. How do you all deal with Thanksgiving? My children will eat whatever, although my oldest is nearly a teen and chooses to be vegetarian.
Guest guest
Hi there, As far as Thanksgiving goes...here is what I do... I usually make up a yummy wild rice disk to bring along and then eat the vegan items along with whatever I bring. Veggies, fruit, cranberries, rolls (if I get to read the ingredients) and I bring my own margarine, etc. My family also takes out a separate scoop of potatoes before they add the milk and butter. Sets them aside and they are all mine :)There is usually way more than I need to eat and to me...it is all about being with family - not the food. I have been a vegan for about 16 years and never felt like I was missing out on anything at Thanksgiving. I did buy a Tofurkey one year and bring it...but since I am the only vegan - it was a waste of $20 to hear them all joke and scrunch up their face as they ate it..LOL.. My family took some time to accommodate my lifestyle - after they realized it wasn't a fad, they really became used to it and would suggest things for me to bring which were their favorite. My bruschetta for instance...is always asked for Lisa
