Guest guest
Here's a recipe for classic split pea soup, which I adapted to make vegan. I've found that adding liquid smoke adds great flavor to many dishes like soups or red beans & rice, for example, which traditionally add smoked meat. This recipe is low fat and jam-packed with nutrition. Not to mention yummy and hearty. SPLIT PEA SOUP 8 cups water 1 pound dried green split peas (about 2 1/4 cups) 1 medium onion, chopped (about 1/2 cup) 1 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon pepper 2 vegetable bullion cubes 1 cup carrots which have been cut into 1/2 inch pieces 1 cup celery which has been cut into 1/2 inch pieces 1 tablespoon liquid smoke 1 package sliced vegan " ham " deli slices, chopped Heat water and peas to boiling in large pot, boil 2 minutes. Remove from heat; cover and let stand 1 hour. Stir onion, salt, vegetable bullion, and pepper into peas. Heat to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer until peas are tender, about 1 hour (longer if peas are old). Stir carrots and celery into soup. Heat to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer until vegetables are tender, about 45 minutes. Add liquid smoke and " ham. " Stir, serve with crackers or bread. Mail - now with 250MB free storage.
