Guest guest
Welcome, Susie. I too have finicky non-vegans in my home and I've had limited success in getting them to eat my vegan food. Some ideas are: pasta with tomato-based sauce (add other veggies either pureed or cut very small), burritoes with bean filling instead of meat, chili (use TVP--texturized vegetable protein--instead of ground meat), soups such as lentil or split pea, vegan pancakes and waffles and muffins (vegweb.com has many). I also try to serve more cut-up fruits and vegetables both at meals and as snacks. Hummus makes a good vegan dip for veggies. Guest guest
Thank you! I never realized just how finicky they were and that I actually enabled them!!! The whole hummus thing? I love it to death.... but they look at it and wonder what has happened to their mother!! I do have this question though - is soymilk totally interchangeable in recipes? I know that it doesn't produce the same results in ready mixes - like instant potatoes and instant pudding mix... has anybody else had this same experience? Any suggestions for replacing the instant milk powder in my bread machine recipes? thank you !! I have a bazillion questions - I will take it easy on the list though and not drive everyone crazy - I have been reading past posts and hope to find my answers before I post already asked questions!!Rachael VerNooy <rachaelvernooy wrote: Welcome, Susie.I too have finicky non-vegans in my home and I've had limited success in getting them to eat my vegan food. Guest guest
Susie, I use soymilk in everything my mother uses cow's milk in. While I don't make instant potatoes and puddings frequently, those times when I do I find it works fine. I use the Silk regular in the things that are not sweet and the Silk vanilla or very vanilla varieties in the sweet things I make. It may depend on the brand you use as to how well the soy milk works. Some are not as thick as others and therefore may end up working a bit differently maybe? I find that it really isn't necessary to use anything to replace the instant milk powder in my bread recipes. Occasionally I will use Soya Powder. Some people I know use Better Than Milk instant soymilk powder. Mostly I just don't replace that particular ingredient and my bread normally turns out fine. God's Peace, Gayle
Guest guest
Thank you so much for the advise - like I said - I enable my finicky eaters (ie: pudding mixes and instant potatoes)....my bad !!! I am trying to mix potatoes w/half real - slowly they won't even recognize the difference! I have noticed their interest lately in some of the things I am eating - I made some casserole looking thing w/pasta, salsa, black beans, corn and spagetti sauce.... my 16 yo son actually ate some of it - and the others kinda looked interested until they saw no meat but beans instead!! I chuckled, smiled and said - I fixed it for me, but if you would like a " no thank you bite " you certainly may! I will try my bread machine tomorrow!! Again thank you! susie --- quintmom wrote: > Susie, > I use soymilk in everything my mother uses cow's > milk in.
