Guest guest
I really like TVP. It is pretty easy to use, and very easy to store, since it is dry. I like Lumins food "meat" too. I don't much care for tofu, but everyone else in my house likes it, so I am always experimenting with it, trying to find a way I like it the best. spongebobs_cool17 <spongebobs_cool17 wrote: Hi! Guest guest
My two cents worth is that I use very little soy product. It really is not a necessity in your diet. When I prepare dishes that would normally call for ground animal, I generally substitute brown rice. I'm not really a fan of the burgers, nuggets and the like because of their high calories, fats, etc., so I don't miss anything there. I really do not like tofu. The one way I do get the benefits of soy is in milk. It is a hit and miss thing to find the brand suited to different tastes, so keep trying and don't assume because one was bad they all are. In my house, one of us likes one brand and I don't care for it at all, so it can really be up to taste. I think the bad wrap vegetarians get re: not getting proper nutrition all comes from teenage girls who think they will be vegetarian so they only live on potato chips and sodas and end up with this or that imbalance. I don't think it very likely that anyone will ever end up deficient much in these days of improved quality and quantity of foods and the varieties we consume. Not to a life or death degree at any rate. Okay, so that was more than two cents, but inflation... Eric
Guest guest
Eric, I'm calling you on this. I have known teenage BOYS who went veg and lived on white bread and cheese- and undoubtedly ignorant vegetarians have in small part contributed to the ludicrous idea that it's difficult or impossible to achieve good nutrition on a veg diet, but the main part of the blame for that idea belongs to ignorant people in general- not to ignorant vegetarians in particluar and ABSOLUTELY NOT to the female sex in particular. -m HotMail <sseric57 Mar 4, 2005 6:37 AM Re: Soy? Guest guest
You're right. I just found a report that says it isn't neccessary especially if you drink the soy. Too much protein is redundant and could be unhealthy if taken from one source. A combination of grains and beans give us all the essential amino acids we need. Dark, leafy greens help us top it all off. HotMail <sseric57 wrote: My two cents worth is that I use very little soy product. It really is not a necessity in your diet.
