Guest guest
Greetings!, I am in an area where it is relatively hard to get any special ingredients, except for online. The nearest natural food store is around 170 miles down the highway, so I will have a really hard time getting special ingredients. I feel quite uncomfortable harming any living thing. If there are wasps in the house, I capture them in a jar and release them outside rather than harming them. I avoid all unnecessary exploitation of animals, but have trouble doing so. I am a reasonably good cook. My favorite recipe is lentils and spinach over rice. I have the recipe on my desktop and will be sending it soon. Most of what I know how to cook at this point is Indian, but would like very much to find Oriental, European, Mexican, South American, North African (Egypt . . .), Russian . . . recipes that do not require the execution/exploitation of animals. I started gravitating towards a Vegan diet when I found out that Vegans are 1/3 as likely as omnivorious folk to develop cancer/heart disease. My family has a history of heart disease/cancer. My grandmother had her cholesterol checked last week, and it was 264; my father is on several hypertension medications; my uncle had a quadruple bypass, ballon angioplasty, and a few others;and my dad, my grandfather, and a few others had skin cancer. I would really like to avoid that if possible. In summation, I am from BFE; I don't like harming/exploiting animals; I want to learn some non-indian recipies (they get to tasting bland after eating very little else for any length of time); and I have an irational fear of heart disease/cancer. I would apreciate any help, Mike
Guest guest
Mike, a resource for recipes, never mind whether or not you care to delve into the science, is John McDougall's books of recipes. I find they use very few ingredients not readily available in almost any supermarket. If you look around on the web, Google search, etc., you will find plenty, or the books should be easy enough to find in your library or for purchase cheap from half.com, etc. The best!
