There are natural remedies like lemon balm or something with tannin in it. Drugstores have tannin topical medication. See a dermatologist. Health food store have lemon balm. If I eat any kind of concentrated fat, my face tends to break out and I get canker sores in my mouth. I can't even eat an avocado without getting adverse results by morning. You are not alone ... Flaxseed oil and hemp oil are good sources. The trouble I'm having is that I'm very busy (I work full-time and go to school full-time), so I don't have time to cook. The result is that I'm mostly eating foods that don't meet my nutritional needs at all. Does anyone have this same problem, and, if so, how do you address it? So when I do get the chance to cook, I usually cook enough for several days and I freeze some as well. My solution is to cook one or two big meals a week (normally on the weekend) and eat leftovers most of the week (either freeze or refrigerate). This may seem obvious, but I also by lots of fruit or other healthy snacks (hummus, carrots, etc). Guest guest Posted May 18, 2005 Report Share Posted May 18, 2005 On the weekend, I'll cook a big pot of lentils, rice or barley, and buy a bunch of produce, which I will proceed to wash and chop (if necessary). Then throughout the week, it's easy to mix a few things together and be on my way. Here are some examples of what I do: ~combine lentils with a can of beans, add chopped avocado, tomato & onion, top with red wine vinegar ~heat some brown rice and top with salsa, a can of black beans, some onion ~stir fry some (already chopped) veggies and serve over the lentils/barley/etc ~throw some lentils in a pita pocket and top with fresh veggies ~mix together pre-packaged lettuce mix with fresh veggies, top with lentils/barley and a can of beans for a great entree salad I'm not a fan of soup, but if you like it, making a garbage soup with the leftover veggies from the week would be a fantastic way to use up the leftovers. The broth can be used to cook some of the barley/lentil/rice in, plus you could easily add potatoes and make it a side dish with any entree. Guest guest Posted May 18, 2005 Report Share Posted May 18, 2005 Other healthy snacks I like to keep around: nuts, sunflower or pumpkin seeds, sesame sticks, dried and fresh fruit, precut veggies and dip. I also cook main dishes in large portions so they last for several days. My recipe for homemade hummus, which is good as a spread or dip: 15 oz. can chickpeas, drained 1/4 c. tahini juice of one lemon 1-3 cloves garlic 1 tsp. cumin 1/2 tsp. paprika 1/2 tsp. salt Blend in a food processor, with enough water to make creamy consistency. So what I have been doing is cooking a couple of things like soup and a casserole and I eat those with whatever veggies and salad by family is having.
