Guest guest
Welcome Linda, it is truly great to have you abroad. Your children are so blessed to have the experience of being raised as live foodist. Already you have given me some information I had been looking for CSA. I saw it once in a Magazine but lost it so thanks. I am sure live far from you but in Richmond there is a heath Food Store "Good Foods Grocery Store" They give you a dollar for each dollar spent program. So after you have 1,000 points you can get $50.00 to shop with. Just yesterday I had 1,500 points so I received $100.00 gift shopping. There are lots of others treats available like massage, etc. However if you purchase organic produce and nuts alone in bulk you can earn points in no time. Have a Fruitful day, Lynda
Guest guest
Despite the name, I am a 59 year old female living In Monteagle, Tennessee on top of the Cumberland Plateau in South Central Tennessee. This is a very small town about 50 miles West of Chattanooga and 90 miles South of Nashville. I took early retirement at the end of December 2004 and my husband took early retirement at the end of May, 2005. I am about 20 lbs overweight and out of shape from sitting behind a desk for so many years. One of my goals in retirement is to shape up and slim down. I actually just want to be healthier and feel better. I have no major health issues now and don't want any as I get older. I was in a car accident seven years ago that resulted in a broken forearm and a broken knee cap. I still have a 9-inch metal plate in the arm and a bit of a stiff knee cap. I was a gymnast in younger years and as a result of both of the above, now have arthritis problems. I have tried many different diets. I have failed at all of them for many reasons. Mainly because I always hedged by continuing to have several drinks in the evening, making exceptions for social occasions and did not exercise. My husband and I both love to cook and love food. We eat mainly a healthy diet, but he is underweight and still eats butter, ice cream, cokes and is more or a meat and potato man. I love my veggies and am beginning to enjoy the added fruits (from the Eat To Live program). We have never eaten fast foods (none around here to speak of). I need to make the decision to stop talking about shaping up and do it. I hope to learn from you all and to receive support. Earnie

Guest guest
Welcome!! I think the vegan diet is a great way to lose weight, and as time passes you'll appreciate the many other benefits (my favorite is that I'm no longer responsible for killing animals so I can chew a mouthful of their flesh). I lost fifteen pounds the first few years and haven't gained it back (13 years later!). Still, lots of vegan foods are calorie-dense (chips, Oreos, french fries). Best wishes to you. Guest guest
Oreos don't contain lard but they have plenty of hydrogenated fat. They quit adding egg whites several years ago. Hydrox are vegan too. Mary --- Sheri McNabb <sheri wrote: > Aren’t oreos made from lard?
Guest guest
Newman O's are vegan and contain no hydrogenated oils. Guest guest
I thought that they eliminated the lard, but still contain whey. We buy our store's own label brand of sandwich cookie. They're chepater and vegan. Lonna , Mary Boehler <mbb73> wrote: > Oreos don't contain lard but they have plenty of > hydrogenated fat. They quit adding egg whites several > years ago. Guest guest
Nope, no whey in Oreos either but they are made with white sugar which means that depending on how the sugar is processed they may not be vegan. Guest guest
welcome Earnie! I know from first-hand experience that it can be difficult to be vegan in the south. If you have any questions, everyone on the list is very helpful. My suggestion is to educate yourself as much as possible. It's both easier for your health and cooking, and for conversations around town. Good luck! cheers, geoff --- Earnie Lumpkins <elumpkin wrote: > Despite the name, I am a 59 year old female living > In Monteagle, > Tennessee on top of the Cumberland Plateau in South > Central Tennessee. > This is a very small town about 50 miles West of > Chattanooga and 90 > miles South of Nashville. Guest guest
Every package of plain Oreos I've seen has milk ingredients in it. The mint ones are vegan though. Guest guest
Colleen, I checked the Oreos about a month ago before my kids got out of school because their teacher asked me to get Oreos for the end of year party. They had no milk in them. I believe they used to, but they don't now - at least the ones sold in my area don't.
