Guest guest
I like the virgin-Mary mix also, but all I do is to add some Tabasco sauce to tomato juice. Try 5 or 6 shakes to start, add more or less to taste afterwards. But that's enough for me. Charles Wilkes PS -- really don't have time to make complicated recipes such as this one, but looking at it, know it would also taste very good. - Sunday, June 22, 2003 7:06 AM Digest Number 1180 > > contact owner: -owner > Mail list: > Delivered-mailing list > List-Un: - > > no flaming arguing or denigration of others allowed > contact owner with complaints regarding posting/list > or anything else. Guest guest
re: kid sizes We have the opposite problem. Our daughter is now, at 26 months, 41 lbs, 37 " tall. Since birth, she's been off the charts for both height and weight (but is following the curve exactly - she's just drawing hers way above everyone else's). Every time we go to the doctor, it's the same thing. " Ack, too big! " Then we sit and have a chat about her diet and our genetics, and they go " oh, well then. Keep doing what you're doing, no problems here. " We were worried ourselves for awhile, since she was 40 lbs at her 15 mo. checkup - but has maintained that for a year /and/ grew 4 inches in 6 months, which is exactly what everyone said would happen. (And she's hitting another growth spurt now - at this rate, she'll be taller than me by the time she's 5.) Still, the key thing we've found is to make the doctor sit and talk. They like to make these pronouncements, like " cut way back on milk and juice! You bad parents! " but when we say " she doesn't drink milk and gets 4 oz. of juice once a week at playgroup, and no, she doesn't ever drink soda, she likes WATER " they will start to pay attention and actually talk with you instead of at you. (The 10 minute lecture on rice was the worst - when my husband FINALLY could sneak a word in, it was " but she only eats brown rice! " to which the nurse said, " oh, nevermind, then, none of that applies. " ) Doctors - I dunno, my dad was one, so I know they have their limitations but they seem to feel (and project) that they don't. Don't ever be scared of 'em, and hey - *you're* paying *them* quite a bit for their time, so make them give you 100% of it, not just " blah blah blah NEXT! " Sometimes they do actually know things (I know, it is a shocker!) but they have to know more about your situation before they'll think to share them with you. Anyway, good luck to everyone on the touchy touchy subject of kid eating - I don't think any parent has a stress-free time of it, but with a " special " diet, it's easier to put the blame there rather than on the fact that hey, kids are picky and fickle and have crazy ideas about feeding themselves. (My mother-in-law fed my husband nothing but Kraft mac-and-cheese and chicken-fried-steak for EIGHT YEARS. I'd be really surprised if anyone here said that was more balanced than what they fed their kids... And he's still alive to tell the tale, so there you go.) -kt
