Guest guest
Tuno (by Natural Touch/Morningstar Farms distributed by Kellogg's) is vegan and is a good tuna substitute for anyone who hasn't tried it yet. It comes in a 12 ounce can. The label reads " Dolphin & Tuna Friendly. " VEGAN " TUNA " SALAD 1 can Tuno 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons sweet pickles diced or sweet relish 3/4 cup Nayonnaise or your favorite vegan mayo 1/4 teaspoon salt Mix all ingredients. I serve on toasted whole grain bread, sometimes with a few leaves of spinach or tomatoes. Vegan comfort food!! I like the recipe posted above best, but it's good with finely diced celery, onions, or red peppers to taste. Enjoy!
Guest guest
Mary, thanks for the heads up! I'm assuming this would be on the shelves, not frozen. If you find it in your regular market, in what area do they stock it? Just wondering, too, is there such a thing as those egg noodles without eggs for tuno casserole. Man, haven't had that in a hundred years. My mom always put peas in hers, too. Eric
Guest guest
Yep. I get Egg Free wide noodles at walmart. They actually have them in the Great Value (walmart) brand. I'm sorry I have to say I really hate this stuff. It looks and tastes like Cat Food. Tuna is chunky and flakey, this stuff is like those fake ground beef crumbles packed in oil in a can. After 13 years of veganism I tried that stuff about a month ago and I kinda wish I hadn't. So to anyone who really wants it to look like real tuna and have a similar texture... careful. *shiver* Talis
Guest guest
I agree. I find Tuno to be pretty disgusting (taste and smell). My boyfriend eats it, but it is a running joke that I call it cat food. I prefer " tuna " salad made with tempeh. (tempeh, soy mayo, celery, spices) It is not quite the same, but tasty nonetheless.
