Guest guest
I am amazed how people think that eating Veggie is going to be more expensive. Rice (brown) and beans make a great source of protein and are about as cheap as you can get. COOK IN BULK This is a great protien dish, cook two cups of brown rice and set off to the side, Then prepare about one to two cups of black beans, or a bean mixture and put off to the side. Then sautee someone onions, garlic ground pepper, finely diced carrotts and celery in olive oil. Then mix everything together (this part can be froozen for later, or made in bulk and freeze half). Ad some fresh parsley and diced tomatoes. This is what I call the english version. Exchange the parsely for cilantro and sautee green or yellow peppers instead of celery and make it south west style. Make it in big batches and eat like a king all week, is great cold. I like to put a little ranch dressing on it and peppochinis on the side. Probably less than a 50 cents a serving. SPROUTS A small handfull of beans, sprout them! In two to three days, salad, full of protiens, enzymes, and all sorts of good stuff. A big jumble of bean sprouts about 25 cents worth of lentil beans and about 3 days of growth will fill me up for 2 to 4 hour hike. (I hike slow) but will defninately last me through lunch to diner.Sprinkle some salad dressing on them and dig in. CHEAP EXPENSIVE FRUITS SMOOTHIES Do you like protien smoothes? Buy the cheap no name soy protein powder with no sugers artificail sweetners or anything else. Then when ever at the produce section look for the fruit that has been moved to clearence, follow the flies. Bannans that are about ready to turn are often 10 cents a pound, not to mention other expensive fruits. Never buy anything that looks to far gone. Take home and cut up and freeze, IMMEDIATELY. Then take out froozen chunks of fruit and mix into your protein smoothy with a little rice or soy milk. The soy and rice milk can also be watered down, depending on budget and taste preference.
