Guest guest
I purchased a hi powered blender awhile back, and have been making nectars - i admit i am not crazy about the veggies so i just eat those, but it makes a really nice pear, apple and grape nectar which i am addicted to. you can use any fruit for this - just add water, but nothing is deleted from the fruit. I also do this with lemons, seeds and all and sweeten with maple syrup. I do get an energy boost but.... since the whole fruit is there i doubt if it's just the sugar. btw you cant include appleseeds because they can be poisonous. so if you own a vitamix or the like give it a try. I wouldn't worry about getting cyanide poisoning from the Amygdalin compounds in apple seeds. The dose is so low it is negligable and wouldn't be enough to cause asphyxiation from the conversion into HCN (Hydrogen Cyanide). Now, eating the inside of a peach or aprocot pit on the other hand, might prove to be more dangerous because the amygdalin compounds there exist in much higher concentrations. Corey... There are a lot of seeds that are potentially harmful to eat. For example, there are the seeds of the caster plant (ricinus communis), which contain the deadly poison ricin. This poison, if memory serves me, is deadly because it keeps the body from being able to engage in protein synthesis. The best way to determine which seeds, berries, plants, roots, herbs, and other foods are poisonous is to order a good book off of amazon on the subject. People should have some idea which parts of a plant are poisonous in the region they live--especially if you have children. Corey...
