Guest guest
Hi everyone. My husband and I are throwing a small Halloween Party, and are trying to come up with food ideas. Since Halloween is supposed to be a " scary " holiday, we thought we could make foods that are named like animals, but aren't really. For example, Ants on a Log (celery w/peanut butter & raisins) and Pigs in a Blanket (tofu pups & dough). Unfortunately, these are the only two we have been able to come up with. Can anyone else think of anything that would work for this? Thanks! Tsaria
Guest guest
you could toast pumpkin seeds and call them " dragon scales, " like my church Harry Potter program did... there's always anything that's chocolate and the whole " dirt " metaphor, you could call sprouts eyelashes or guts, and there are, of course, the good old fashioned pastries " bear claws " and " elephant ears, " which I'm sure you could create vegan versions of. Another old standby is to peel grapes and call them eyballs. -m --- Tsaria Thela <goodygrrl wrote: > Hi everyone. Guest guest
Can you do a cake recipe and put in some sort of vegan gummy worms? Totally gross. And worms in cake is just so wrong Yvonne PS You might want to look on the Kraft site or any other large food manufacturer site and look for recipes for children. They tend to have ideas for halloween on them this time of year.. You'l have to modify them no doubt to make them vegan no doubt but they might give you some great ideas. Guest guest
Talking about gummy worms in a cake or something, we used to make mud cakes. Chocolate pudding on top of chocolate brownies some brownies were crumbled into the pudding and the we mixed the gummy worms in the pudding as well. It was fun and totally gross (not gross tasting though)Yvonne <yummy1 wrote: Can you do a cake recipe and put in some sort of vegan gummy worms?Totally gross. They were served in a box which used grape-nuts as the litter, and two different cookie bar recipes as the, um, contents. IIRC, the ingredients were really tasty. I believe someone also used chocolate pudding for an extra touch of realism. Nancy (who somehow just remembered to clean the catbox)

And worms in cake is just so wrong I don't know. Perhaps if they had carob flavored vegan gummy worms, that would work out. Or, if you covered them with a carob topping. We could call it earthwarm suprise. The perfect cake for a 9-year old son's birthday party. Personally, I like my mom's vegan recration of Better than Robert Redford. Corey... Guest guest
How does your mom make Better than Robert Redford vegan? I love it, and have a recipe for it, but my tries to veganize it have failed, well just did not taste as good.Corey <isomorphics wrote: Personally, I like my mom's vegan recration of Better than RobertRedford. Guest guest
I have decided on what to serve tonight, and just thought I would share. Our Menu: Jumbo Eye of Newt (grapes stuffed with raisins for pupils) Pigs in a Blanket (Smart Pups & Pillsbury cresent dough) Ants on a Log (celery w/peanut butter, raisins on top) Bone Bread (Mochi - this one we wanted to have it, but didn't know what to call it. Idea from Jack & the Beanstalk) Alien Blood (Bolthouse Farms Green Goodness Juice) Dragon Scales (Raw pumpkin seeds) You know, as a child, I always thought you were supposed to eat the whole pumpkin seed. Was I mistaken? It certainly is easier to only eat the nut inside. Tsaria
