I'm glad you got a kick out of it.

Maybe it was her flippant " it's pretty simple " (when it's not, or why would

we be posting and sharing experiences?) that led me, in the thick of the

problem, to read her message as a bit dismissive of the real struggle we

parents of picky eaters face, several times a day. And considering that I

was one of the ones who complained about a picky eater, I think it's a safe

guess that the writer *was* including me in her audience. If she wasn't

writing to me and the other moms who have expressed frustration with our

kids' eating habits, to whom was she making her suggestion? So I was

basically pointing out that her post was quite presumptuous. As if we are

not already striving for " self-improvement " and did not already come up with

the brilliant idea of modeling healthy eating.

Yep, it's " simple to eat well in front of your kids " if, that is, you don't

mind them not eating, or if you don't mind cooking two meals, or if you

don't mind *them* not eating healthy when they do eat.

Angela,

My son doesn't have allergies (we've been fully tested, plus he shows no

symptomology), but getting him involved in meal planning is a good idea.

That is, I've thought of it but since I have little time to " meal plan " (ah,

life in the Single Parent Fast Lane!) it often comes down to what's in the

cupboard and what do I have the energy to cook?

:)

Well, my picky eater has just started eating. But not at suppertime. He

sits with us for a while at supper, eats (or not) and then goes off to play.

Then I find he has started snacking through the evening. I really don't

mind though because he is eating healthy snacks. This is a good thing in my

view. I think sitting through a whole meal will come in time. He's pretty

active so I think meal time can drag on for him. I have ADD so it is

possible that he may too. I know that I found sitting still downright

painful when I was a kid.

I'm jumping in the middle, but I just want to point out that this DOES depend on what you can/will eat. Some people have allergies that make it difficult for them to eat grains and legumes. Katya, just take baby steps. You may find that over time things you never liked before will start to appeal to you as you change your diet. Three big ones I never used to like but now can't get enough of are fresh tomatoes, black olives, and artichokes... just keep trying new things until you have a stable of things that you enjoy and you'll be able to make the switch if you want to. -mNancy <meritra wrote: At 05:43 PM 1/2/2006, aprivatekat wrote: >I am Katya, 35, single and no children. ... >the dr. thinks I need to keep chicken and
