Does anyone make their own tofu and/or soy milk?

I'm trying to determine whether its economical to make my own or not. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Rose

I just saw a ton of sites for making tofu and it looks rather easy.

Economically? I guess if you start with soybean rather than soy milk it

would be. I will try it with the kids but I doubt that it would be

something I would do all the time. I love Trader Joes extra firm tofu.

It's labor intensive and time consuming. I suspect that if you " paid "

yourself a fair wage, the cost of making your own would be much higher

than buying it. Larger companies have economies of scale -- the unit

cost of making soy products is cheaper if you can do it in bulk.

But that's economics. There's also the satisfaction of making something

with your own hands. Only you can determine if making your own tofu and

soy milk is worth the effort. I'm a knitter, and the satisfaction of

turning out a perfect pair of socks beats the cost of making them any day.

You could always give it a shot and see if you like doing it. Just a

thought.

Cheers,

Trish
