Not exactly sure what you are talking about, but then it is early in the

morning. Like 6 am. But rice ball sounds like you want a rice that holds

together? What about using rice used for making sushi or sticky rice? Also

called Glutinous rice, also called sticky rice, sweet rice, waxy rice,

botan rice, mochi rice, and pearl rice. This is probably not much help, but

then I am not sure what it is that you want...you sure don't have to fry it

and it will hold together.

Sorry, I am looking for rice balls that have a center of some type of

vegetable (they usually contain meat or seafood). That is not held

together with egg and can be baked, some call for deep frying, I

think thats more of the Italian version? The Japanese version seems

workable by just replacing the seafood with veggies...I was hoping

someone had an actual recipe though...I'll probably just have to

experiment.

Hello all,

I am wondering if anyone out there has a " tried and true " Vegan rice

ball recipe that is not fried? I am looking for more of a Japanese

style rather than the Italian. Thanks So much!

Stephanie,

Google " onigiri " or " vegetarian onigiri " and see what

comes up. Onigiri are Japanese rice balls that have a

filling, or can even be plain. They're made with

sticky/sushi rice but they are NOT baked (or fried).

The cooked rice just sticks together and that's about

it! They're most often seen in a triangular shape but

can be round or cylindrical. Sometimes they have nori

wrapped around them, or are sprinkled with sesame

seeds or furikake. Spicy tuna is a very common

filling but you can put anything in them.

Thanks for the link, that was a good one...I think I'm going to try chopping up some steamed broccoli and carrots, maybe some cauliflower for the filling... Stephanie :)

Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? Check out
